Epson Stylus Office BX320FW Printer Review
Epson's high-end inkjet all-in-one printers are usually speedy, cost effective as well as make good prints. The firm is hoping to duplicate this further down the range with the middle-of-the-road Stylus Office BX320FW.
The waved top of the organization's top office all-in-ones is duplicated here, though the clever lift to the output tray of the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is dispensed with as a cost reduction. The ADF input tray nonetheless flips shut to better the outlines of the machine when not copying. A rather flimsy, three-stage telescopic paper support folds back and lifts from the rear to supply a 120-sheet feed slot. An additional telescopic support, having a flip-up paper stop, pulls out from the front, though it does not fold fully out of the way when the unit is sealed. The control panel runs the majority of the width of the front of the unit, and yet is in fact not really that deep. It includes a two-line by 16-character mono Liquid crystal display, with no backlight, however Epson has utilised the text effectively and scrolls messages via the lower row of the display, at the same time keeping the higher row for the purpose of titles. In front of the display can be found three mode buttons plus to its right there's a simple navigation square, a numeric pad having added operation buttons with regard to fax, five single-click buttons meant for quick dials and three buttons to commence and also cease copy as well as scan jobs.
Raise the scanner area and you have entry to the head carrier into which are attached the five ink cartridges. In a quite peculiar layout, three of the slots are really for the cyan, magenta and yellow inks that exist in two yields, but the black slots solely take the standard yield consumable. These black cartridges aren't text and photo, but two slots intended for the same black cartridges, which means you get double the text capability of a device having a single slot.
There aren't any memory card slots or a PictBridge socket, however you do have sockets in the side designed for telephone line as well as optional, third party handset, as well as USB and Ethernet sockets at the back.
Wireless networking is provided as standard and it is an uncomplicated product to setup.
Drivers are offered with respect to Windows and OS X and application software is also provided, comprising Presto! PageManager, a useful document management application which includes OCR.
Our 5-page text print took 27 seconds, a rate of 11.1ppm, whilst the longer, 20-page document raised this a bit to 12.8ppm. They are very good speeds. This company estimates 15ppm for colour pages, but our 5-page colour print emerged through at merely 2.8ppm, less than a fifth of the claim. A single-page colour copy out of the scanner glass took 30 seconds and then a five-page, black text copy out of the ADF finished in one minute, 10 seconds. A 15 x 10cm photo print took two minutes, one second in best print mode as well as 58 seconds with photo mode. There is not a great deal of disparity in value between the two photograph prints and for nearly all purposes photo mode will be a great deal more than adequate.
Colour graphics with plain paper are acceptable while using Epson Stylus Office BX320FW printer cartridges, with a good selection of colours appearing lustrous and with very little in the way of dither patterns. A colour copy was not really so great, with colours reproducing in a somewhat blotchy way and with some run of black text across colour. Straight black text is quite usable, yet is not as thoroughly clean as from the majority of other inkjets, exhibiting some spread of ink directly into the paper nap.
The BX320FW is actually fine value, although not close to as fine as it may be.
