Can I use copper with metal together on my circuit breaker on my system?
I had been doing work on my car and disconnected the battery and the ground that runs to the battery.
One of the metal pieces on the circuit breakers broke and so I replaced it with a copper like this.
Would this be bad to run both metal and copper on this ?
will it short out my system or something ?
What's going on ?
If the metal piece in you breaker box was copper and you used copper to fix fine. However, if the metal in your breaker was aluminum(lightweight, and silver all the way through) then you would not want to replace with copper.
It is never a good idea to have unlike metals in contact with each other, they (to put it simply) steal each-others electrons and cause corrosion/rust.
If you have copper in contact with aluminum it will corrode at the point of connection become an electrical resistance, heat up, and fail-possibly causing a fire under the right conditions.(unless the copper is tinned-this tin coating makes it acceptable for certain- other metal contact, including aluminum), .
