These microphones produce a very high quality sound due to usage of better technology in the microphones. Such microphones are preferred by most people in recording studios and labs due their small size and negligible weight and as said earlier, their immaculate voice clarity.
The condenser microphone in its present form was first founded in 1916, a scientist named E Wente in Bell Labs made the invention. This was a revolutionary discovery as it meant that voice recordings and quality will never be the same anymore. Two variations of the condenser microphones are out in the market. In the DC-biased microphone, audio signals are extracted via the transducer by biasing the plates in the microphone accompanied by a fixed amount of charge and maintaining the voltage in the capacitor plates due to which vibrations are created in the air. The high frequency (HF) or radio frequency (RF) variant of microphones on the other hand use a low RF voltage created by a low noise oscillator. Both DC-Biased and RF microphones require a power source to establish the voltage across the capacitor plates. Usually such power can be generated from batteries or any electronic plug points.
These microphones can be found in any good electronic shop. You can buy the large diaphragm variants or the smaller diaphragm variants. You may be lured by the cheaper variants but if you really want your condenser mic to last life long, it is advisable that you purchase a high quality microphone. Though the higher quality microphones do create a sizable hole in your pocket, in the long run you will find that you have actually saved a lot of money than you would have if you bought a cheap microphone.
The biggest advantage of a condenser mic is that these microphones can use phantom power that is battery generated power which allows you to move freely without having to stand like a statue beside the power source of the microphone. A condenser microphone is better than other microphones for the above reasons and it is also the most convenient to use too.

Troubles setting up my mic?
I just got an Apex440 USB wide diaphragm condenser microphone, but I'm having troubles setting it up. On the instructions, it says it's compatible with Mac and Windows XP and higher. My computer's running on a windows 7. When I go to "control panel" and then "sound", it's not there as a microphone I can pick, but it's there under "devices & printers" under "unspecified". Help please??
