What is a decent low priced home theater pre-amplifier?
I'm looking to beef up the bass levels on all my speakers as my current surround sound Pioneer receiver barely pushes them. (even though its a 660 watt receiver). I want to be able to hear the bass in each speaker so I won't have to rely so much on my powered subs.
What is a good, inexpensive amp with bass and treble controls? And how do I use it/hook it up?

In surround sound there are no bass signal going to the other speakers, beside that to the subwoofer. Your receiver does not power the subwoofer, it only provides a line out and the sub woofer
amplifier provides the power. All surround receivers low frequency of 80HZ and below goes to the subwoofer. The rear and side channel are for sound effects only and there are low low frequency going to them. What you need is a more powerful subwoofer. If you change the setting on your speaker set up menu for the front speakers to be a large then it will put the low frequency to the two front speakers, but then you will not have any bass going to the subwoofer. The power on your receiver only powers the 5 or 7 speaker and not the sub woofer. You are not going to find a pre amp processor that is in the low end, they are mainly in the high end. I use a Krell pre amp processor that cost me $4,000 and it does not have the base or treble control like you are looking for. Power amplifier does not provide bass and treble control either and again they are mainly in the high end market. I use a Cinema pro SE 3K 6 channel power amplifier, which cost me $6,000. Again, just demo a decent sub woofer that might fit your needs, which would be less expensive. Look at a Klipsch or Polk audio aub woofers. Hope this will help you out.
