Digital Mixer – the Revolutionized Mixing Console
A mixer, or mixing consoles, audio mixers, mixing desk, or sound board, is an electronic device that combines or “mixes”, routes, changes level or dynamics of audio signals. There are 2 types of mixer – analog and digital. Though analog mixers remain popular because of its simplicity, digital mixers have remarkably making its way over the past couple of years. Special Features
Most models include special effects like parametric EQ, gating, automatic feedback reaction, compression, reverb, tap delay and straight delay. Other digital mixers have spectrograph, real time analyzer, and can be integrated with loudspeaker management devices like crossover filtering and limiting.
Remote Access
System technicians can make adjustments from a distant using wired/wireless laptops, tablets or touch screens. Modifications can be easily monitored and controlled thus a more responsive mixing platform to address changing conditions on stage.
Sound Quality
A digital mixer utilizes a mic preamp which is followed by an ADC that quantizes the audio stream. Consequently, overloading and clipping are appropriately managed to produce a more accurate digital streaming. Many digital mixers are also quieter than their analog counterparts. Set a maximum amplitude in a mixer circuit?
I have a question asking me to design a 3 input mixer circuit, using potentiometers and a summing amplifier and one of the criteria is: "The maximum amplitude from each source is 10v"
Also, each of the sources must be ac, and each must be able to be varied from 0 to 100%, I did that with a potentiometer, but im not sure how to limit amplitude
The mixer circuit you have been ask to design must be able to handle ac inputs (probably in the audio frequency range) from each of the three sources at peak levels that are varying from 0 to 10 Volts. This means that the summing amplifier must be biased such that when all three inputs are momentarily in phase on a positive (+ 30V) peak or negative (-30V) peak that the summing amp does not saturate or cut off. Either one causes distortion.
You can not limit the input to the potentiometers to a specific ac peak Voltage level from a source whose peak output Voltage amplitude is unknown without additional circuitry. What you can do is adjust the output of the three devices that drive the three potentiometers such that when the potentiometers are set for maximum the output of each potentiometer is equal to 10 Volts on ac peaks. This would insure that the maximum peak input Voltage to the mixer amp from each source can never be greater than 10 Volts peak. It would also allow for each input signal to the mixer amp to be varied from 0V (0%) to 10Vp (100%) by the three potentiometers.
I think you are being ask to design a mixer amp that can handle three separate ac inputs that range in amplitude from 0 to 10 Volts peak. If so you are not required to design your mixer input to handle any input signals whose peak amplitude exceeds 10 Volts.
