Trying to follow you, but synths are virtual instruments or external devices, rather than samples, which are pre-recorded sounds. FL Studio has synthmaker, but it takes quite a long time to develop the understanding of the different components of building a software instrument. If you just want a unique sound, open up one of the instruments like Sytrus or Toxic Biohazard and start with a pre-set that is sort of close to what you are looking for. Mess with the dials! You aren't going to break it and those presets won't go away, so you can always start over. That way you have a totally original sound that you created using the synth. You don't have to know the science behind why a sine wave differs from a cosine, but when adjusting the dials, pay attention to what is happening to the sound. It's better to know what the dial will make the sound do rather than just knowing the waveform science!
The Directwave plug-in can take any sample and manipulate it, but that isn't a synth, that's sampling and adjusting the sound. Keep in mind the DIrectwave player is free and only manipulates the loaded sounds, while the full version manipulates any sound you load into it.
