How do you change out the laser lens on a playstation 3 system?
The big news with Playstation3 systems is that the blue ray reader stops reading all discs. It will not read ps3 ps2/dvd/cd/blueray. You may be able to access the crossbar menu but no games.
This is big news? Not in the first 4 years after launch, it's not.
The ps3 contains a cd diode and a dvd diode as well as the blu-ray diode. The odds of them all failing at the same time are pretty slim. The odds of any of them failing before the ps3 is several years old are also slim. But even if the blu-ray diode's failure blows the dvd and cd functions also, the solution in any case is to either buy a new one, open the ps3 and replace it, or have someone else do it. Just like it is for the ps2. But that is not a big problem till several years down the road. Right now a replacement laser tray assembly is about $110.
