Interviewing: The Technical Details
While the content is most important for the interview, since it is video the sound and picture matter too. Here are a few final tips for creating a technically great interview on a low budget with non-invasive feeling equipment.
1. Prepare questions before the interview and write them down.
2. Become familiar with your recording equipment and test it before you begin the interview.
3. Use the highest quality video camera and microphone(s) you can.
-Digital camcorders have become much more affordable and you can find one at every price point.
-Use an external microphone if possible. This can be a boom mic you attach to the top of the camera or on a mic stand or a lavalier microphone you put on someone's lapel.
-If you know that your video camera doesn't record the greatest sound, another option is to invest in a small digital audio recorder as well, and place that as close to the interview subject as possible. You or one of your tech saavy children) will be able to sync the audio recorded on this recorder to your video at a later time. This is sometimes a great idea to do anyways just as a backup in case something goes wrong with your camera.
4. For video interviews:
-Mount the camera on a tripod
-Position the camera a few feet from your interviewee
-Focus on the interviewee's face, upper body, and hands
-Avoid using the zoom feature
-If you are using a separate audio recorder place it between you and the interviewee and test to make sure that both of your voices are recorded at a good volume.
-Test the sound with the interviewee in the seat he or she will be in before you begin the interview and adjust the microphone volume.
5.Interview in a quiet, well-lit room and avoid noise from:
-fluorescent lights
-chiming clocks
-Heating and cooling systems
-Ringing telephones
-Televisions, radios, music
-Other conversations
-Lawnmowers, low-flying airplanes, trains, trucks, motorcycles
-Pets
Basically as soon as you turn on a camera you will find out how noisy the world is. Don't hesitate to pause the interview until the sound has passed. You'll be happy you did. Just make sure you communicate with your interview subject about what you are doing so that they don't wonder why you have stopped engaging with them.
6. Be sure the tape has started recording before you start speaking!

I'm urgently searching for a
Wireless Microphone with one Headband Headset & Two Lapel (Lavalier) Mic.
I want the head mic to not be plugged into any receiver that I have to stuck in my belt. I mean just the head mic with the receiver attached to the back without any cables attached for plug in.
