What is one form of Plasma and explain why it would be plasma.?

As I understand it, any hot gas which is ionized is a plasma. A neon lamp is a good example. These are small bulbs with two electrodes in a glass envelope containing neon gas. As you apply an electrical potential to the electrodes, eventually electrons start to flow from one electrode to the other. As the electrons approach the other electrode, they impinge on the neon atoms, ionizing them causing the orange glow you see. The glow is caused by electrons falling back into the original shell they came from. If I use DC, only one electrode glows. If I use AC, then both electrodes will glow as the current flow alternately shifts direction. By the way, argon added changes the color from orange to purple..
