Watch Your Wedding Weather
For centuries many couples have been married indoors, usually in a church. But today fewer couples are tying the knot in a religious ceremony and many are heading outside for their vow taking. There are many advantages but also a few traps. This article will help you avoid any problems.
Is it lawful? It sounds crazy but just because a park is a public space, doesn't mean you can get married there, at least not without permission. So if you find an ideal spot, check to make sure if you need a permit.
Access is vital. The setting may be perfect but how easy is it for your guests to arrive? What if you have elderly guests or folk who are disabled? Just because the location is stunning, make sure people can arrive in comfort.
Every church has a roof. Getting married outdoors may involve bad weather. Being married on a beach as the heavens open is not much fun. You need a fall-back position if the weather turns nasty.
Dress according to the location. If you choose flimsy material for your outfit and have a hairstyle which invites a disaster, remember that the wind can blow and if you're outdoors that's exactly what might happen. Plan for your setting.
Seating and sweating. If you marry outdoors, presumably it will be in the warmer months. Can your guests sit down? Do they have easy access to water or soft drinks? What provision have you made for toilet facilities? A church wedding means no such problems but outdoors introduces a whole new ball game.
Loudspeakers or what? If you are exchanging your vows outdoors, it is nice if your guests can hear. In a natural amphitheater that may not be a problem but otherwise your voices will be carried away on the wind. Think about a microphone, even lapel mics, and a simple public address system will mean your guests can be part of your ceremony.
Don't forget the dining. If you are offering food outdoors, even nibbles, make sure the caterer has experience in serving in such a setting. Make sure the food on offer is appropriate for outdoor dining. The setting may well determine the menu.
As you can see, an outdoor wedding has great potential for a memorable event but also scope for any number of mini disasters. Go through all the possibilities. Microphone system for OAPs?
My Grandmother suffers from Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and Senile Dementia. The result of these is that her voice is very low and very weak. It's difficult to hear what she's saying when we go to visit her. What I would like to ask is if anyone out there knows of a portable microphone system (preferably a lapel mic) consisting of a mic, receiver and speaker output that we could use to amplify her voice so we can hear what she's saying?
