For live performance, you have to plug the microphone into some sort of amplifier. The most common amplification is a PA system, but there are also combo amps that are made for guitar and microphones.
If you just want to use this for recording, you can plug it into a recording device. Depending on what you're using for recording, you may need cable adapters or interfaces to connect the mic. For instance, if you want to record using your computer, you'll want some sort of pre-amp...either a small mixing board or USB interface.
BTW, if you can spend a little more and get a Shure SM58, you'll have a quality mic that will last you a lifetime.
