whats the difference between a mixer and a muli-track recorder?
im not totally sure on this subject but i think a mixer is the system used for puttin mics and instrument through a PA, ie they are sent out to big speakers, and you can adjust the sound, volume etc, but they cannot record. A multi-track recorder, as its name suggests, can record multiple tracks and works similarly to a mixer but may or may not have speakers (but will have headphone slots). It will record onto a hardrive and then could probably be put onto a CD somehow. Often the more advanced portable recorders can be used as a mixer at a rock concert etc to send music out to speakers as well as record.
