Effects of acid rain on hermit crabs?
I know that acid rain effects freshwater aquatic ecosystems more than it does marine because it affects more on the regional system than global systems, I also know that acid rain does affect the shallower areas of the ocean, which is where the hermit crabs live. But hermit crabs are scavengers so would it be better for the hermit crabs because they have more food to eat or will they be the ones dying as well? How should acid rain affect the population of hermit crabs?
Acid rain can thin out the shells of sea creatures which the hermit crabs need for protection. It can also effect their food sources and the water they drink.
Land hermit crabs have gills and the acid can burn these out making it hard or impossible to breath.
