Mackie Mixing Board Maintenance? 1/4 inch inputs not working?
i've owned a Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro Mixing board for a couple of years now. after continued use, my quarter inch inputs stopped working one by one. they do actually work, but in order to get them to work, i have to insert the cable about halfway. i finally realized that inside the input hole is a little "prong" that seems to bend in after continued use. so i'm assuming that i have to take the mixing board apart and get into each input and bend this little "prong" back out. does anybody have experience with this or know of a website that will guide me through it? maybe i dont need to take the board apart? can i remove individual inputs? also, is there a way that i can prevent this from happening in the future? i mean, all i do is plug cables in, and pull them out..........not sure what else can be done. sorry if this is confusing, i dont really know "mixing board" lingo. thank you for taking the time to read this.
There are two ways you can get it to work, and they both involve taking the circuit board out and some soldering and desoldering. The first way is to remove the input jacks and replace them with new ones, and the second way is to remove the input jacks, cut a 1/4 in extension cable in half so you have a cable with a 1/4 in jack on the end of it, and solder this wire in place of the original jack (so you would have jacks with wires coming out of the soundboard, instead of the actual jacks you had before).
Bending the original contact prong is an option, I suppose, but you know that's only a temporary solution, and if you bend something, sooner or later it will break off, so you'll need to replace it then anyway... Not a lot of good news here, sorry.
