Food You Need to Eat to Prevent Toothache

my silky hen has attacked her first hatched chick please help?
after incubating her 25 plus eggs ( some of which were not her eggs)this hen has attacked her first hatched chicken and half its head was raw and bleeding this was really distressing however I have put this chick and the next one to hatch under a 60 watt light bulb in a shoe box with wood shavings they seem to be ok and cheeping alot so I have offered them food and water and they have eaten a little bit there is still alot of eggs to hatch tonight what should I do ? will she attack these ones too? Is it easy to incubate the eggs inside ? she seems to be sitting well on them and keeping trhem warm . do I need anything special to keep the hatched chickens alive in side???

Did you incubate some and then put them with her? That could be the problem.
We either incubate them inside or let the hen hatch them. We've never had a problem either way. I think more eggs hatched that were with the hen though. But that's just probably from laziness to turn the eggs.
Keeping the hatched chicks alive inside isn't hard. We put ours in a box with a light bulb and a thermometer. When first born they have to be about 95 degrees. Then you gradually lower the heat by raising the light bulb or heat lamp, whichever you use.
The only problem is that they stink like all get out. You have to change their shavings at LEAST once a day.
Also, the biggest mistake we made with baby chicks was the watering dish. You have to have rocks in with the water so that the baby chicks can't drown themselves. If there is too much water they will flop themselves in it and drown.
What we do now is we don't keep them inside anymore. We put them outside in the barn in a small pen around the other chickens. We change the bedding every 2 to 3 days which is easier. Of course with it being winter you need to watch the temperature a LOT closer and probably have at least a couple heating lamps depending on how cold your barn is.
As for incubating the eggs inside.... it's pretty easy if you have an incubator. You have to turn them a couple times a day unless your incubator has an automatic turner. Then you have to keep a small amound of water in there also. Then you candle (put a light to the eggs) to see if there is a chick growing inside. Discard the eggs that don't have chicks. It's a LOT easier to have the hen do all the work though lol.
I don't know why she pecked the one baby chick though. Maybe it was a sick chick or she's just a bad mother. I think either could be possible. I probably wouldn't let her raise anymore.
The most important thing to know with baby chicks though is that you need to have fun with them! They are so cute!
