How do I hook up a 240 watt subwoofer to my Sony shelf stereo?
I just got a 240 watt subwoofer that was made to put in a home instead of a car however it is not self powered. I wish to hook it up to my Sony shelf system stereo. How would I do that? And do I need an amp and equalizer or anything else, or can I hook it right up to the stereo? Thanks!
well if your planning on using this in a house then you would most likely need an amp. there is a simple way of installing this without having to power the amp with a car battery go to radio shack and buy a universal power adapter that can reach 12 volts usually they will come with tips for the power but we are not going to use thees cut off the head that attaches the tips and there should be two wires one black cable with a white stripe on it and one that's just black, or if you got a different color scheme type of universal adapter your positive cable is always the one with th stripe now expose the ends of the cables attach them to the amp in their locations and you should have power to ur amp and then you can connect your rca's from the output of the stereo. if your stereo dose not have an rca input you will need to make sure you have an amp with the high level cables or the speaker connectors so that the sub may work with the system.
